Influencers have never been more popular. It’s all about looking cool. Thanks Instagram.
What’s cooler than a private jet? I’d say almost nothing. Traveling in luxury without flight attendants or crying babies.
Let’s talk about how you can build your own private jet:
This studio in LA rents out a stage that is built to look exactly like a private jet. With some custom lighting around each window it looks like you’re cruising along at high altitude shooting your videos or snapping pics for Instagram.
Now that I think about it I wonder if this scene from The Office was shot on a real private jet…
Anyways, let’s talk about how you could get started:
If you’re already a photographer or have your own studio you’ve got a head start. Finding a spot to make this happen is going to be the hardest part.
Look for industrial space, some sort of warehouse where you can build your semi portable studio. Depending on your area you could rent a space for $500 a month or less.
Your build should be very bare bones, but extremely nice on the inside. If you have construction skills you could probably DIY it, but I would lean towards having a contractor take a look at it. Let’s play it safe and say it’s $5000 to build your entire stage, without furniture.
Buy some nice leather seats that look like they could be on a private jet. If you’re creative something like this one from Ikea would work.
Once your build is done it’s all marketing to fill up slots. You’ll want a basic website and booking software. Squarespace and Calendly should work, there’s endless options there.
To generate leads use a 2 pronged approach and double down on what works best.
Paid Advertising:
A/B testing of Instagram ads with $200 budget the first month
Influencer Marketing:
Send DMs to local photographers and offer discounted rates so they can shoot in your studio with their clients.
Work with local studios to promote your new stage in return for a fee based on leads they generate. Example: X Studio posts on Instagram and sends you 10 new clients, you pay X Studio $30 for each client
Let’s get to the good part, the number$
Call it $50 for a basic 1 hour booking, and give discounts for multi hour bookings. Let’s throw out some numbers:
$35 per hour
4 hours per day
20 days a month
= $2,800 per month
You take out rent costs and marketing expenses you should break even after 3-4 months. Bada bing bada boom 💰
Let’s see how it ranks on the OG STR scales:
Startup costs: $5,000-$10,000
Sweat equity: medium
Seasonality: none
