Hi all,
I just wanted to be real with everyone today. I’m pumped about The Steel Road and the growth that has happened since I’ve started writing consistently.
Since I started writing in December, this is what the subscriber growth has looked like.
I’m so thankful to each of you who subscribes to this newsletter. I write it because I hope to start a movement in entrepreneurship that needs to happen.
But before we get into my why, I’d like to ask a favor of you.
Right now I don’t make any money off this newsletter. No affiliate links, no sponsors, no nothing. I do this on my own time hoping to make a difference.
I promise to you I will keep doing this, 3 times a week. I’ll keep going without paying myself as long as I have to in order to get my message out there.
All I ask is that you do one thing in return. And no, I’m not asking for your money.
Please just share the newsletter with someone who will enjoy it. That’s it, super easy. I work hard to research and write these posts, and all you have to do is click this button👇.
Why does The Steel Road exist?
Alright, story time everyone.
When I was 21 years old I was at a decision point in my life. I was enrolled in college courses, getting ready to move to a different state, and I knew I needed money.
I had a decent car, some savings, and a nice apartment lined up. But with the cost of tuition and living expenses I had maybe 2 months of runway before I ran out of money.
Like most young entrepreneurs I went searching for a side hustle I could start. I bet I set the record for most Google searches “business ideas 2020”.
And of course, the usual garbage came up.
“Use this site to take surveys and earn cash!”
“Deliver groceries with Instacart!”
“Drive for Uber!”
“Start a dropshipping business!”
“Ask your neighbors if you can mow their lawn!”
“Sell subscription boxes!”
I got so sick of all the SEO optimized blogs that were filled with ads and crappy affiliate links that I gave up altogether.
Eventually I lucked into a job posting on LinkedIn where I got hired to work at an awesome startup. The founder and my coworkers became close friends that helped me along on my entrepreneurial journey.
Not everyone is this lucky. It makes me incredibly sad to think of all the young entrepreneurs who have their drive and ambition sucked out by SEO optimized sites and soul sucking jobs that encourage sticking with the status quo and being normal.
How many people had awesome ideas and plans that never came to fruition all because they weren’t able to find the resources to point them in the right direction?
"For of all sad words of tongue or pen, The saddest are these: 'It might have been!'“.
-John Greenleaf Whittier
I write The Steel Road with the hope that I can create a resource for entrepreneurs to build awesome, simple businesses that anyone can start with a little bit of elbow grease and process development.
I may not inspire the next Steve Jobs or Elon Musk, but I hope to inspire the next guy in the neighborhood with a new F150 and surf boat.
And that is why, if you ignored my earlier request, share this newsletter with a friend.
