It’s been too long since we have come out with a few really solid ideas, so here it goes.
Our readers gave a resounding answer in a recent poll that their are looking for more business ideas that can be started by anyone in the entire world.
If you like business ideas, then make sure you are subscribed.
Most of the things we have discussed are centered around suburban life in the United States. You can’t really start a landscaping business if you live in the middle of London. That’s why today we are bringing a business that can be started anytime, anywhere. As long as you have a little bit of storage space.
What does all of humankind have in common? Very little these days. Politics and lifestyle differences seem to drive all sorts of divisiveness in today’s world.
But we all have to accept one thing. We’re all going to die at some point. There isn’t one person who has figured out how to become immortal. Not for the lack of trying though, if you want to see some interesting stuff, do a deep dive on Bryan Johnson’s Blueprint.
Along the way to death, there are going to be injuries, sicknesses and maladies that take humans out of commission for a while. Thanks to modern medicine things like a broken foot, torn ACL, whooping cough, and even cancer aren’t as life threatening as they were for out ancestors.
With all of these advancements in modern medicine come different types of healing aids that make it so you can cope until you are finally healed. I’m talking about that kid in middle school who broke his foot and rolled around on a little scooter like the coolest kid in class for 3 weeks.
Things like this make it easier to recover, but after you’re done it just takes up a ton of space in a closet for years until you decide to throw it out. Everyone has that random pair of crutches that have been sitting around for years leftover from your little accident.
How can we turn this into an actual business?
If you browse through your local classifieds or Facebook Marketplace you’ll find tons of listings for these medical devices where they are practically being given away. How can you compete with being almost free?
Two words. Professionalism and Convenience.
Here’s what you are going to do. To stand out from the crowd, this is one of the rare times that we’ll want a really nice looking web site and social media profile.
Buy a very specific domain to your area. You can likely do this on Google Domains for $12.
londoncrutchrentals.com
iwalkslc.com
mobilityscootersontario.com
Choosing a very basic domain like this will help you in the future with SEO placement and showing up in the top of Google Search.
Once you have your domain, use carrd.co to build a simple yet beautiful landing page showcasing crutches for rent, mobility scooters, and any other medical devices you think you can get your hands on.
Important! Don’t buy any devices yet.
After the site is live and you have a way to collect orders(typeform or stripe), then you are ready to start generating leads. Remember, you still don’t have any inventory because you still need to validate your idea.
Go to your local classifieds, Facebook, craigslist, etc. Post an ad for rentals on a weekly and monthly basis, giving a discount for longer rentals. Redirect them to your website with your inventory. Offer FREE DELIVERY of all devices to your service area.
The last thing someone wants to do after a freshly broken bone is drive around the city hunting down equipment for their recovery.
As you get leads start buying the equipment you’ll need to fulfill orders. Look into providing ice machines, iwalk devices, toilet grab bars, bathtub stools, etc.
Use Airtable to fulfill orders and track your inventory. Grow your business using Zapier to automate order requests and pretty soon you’ll need to hire a driver to help you dropoff and pickup orders.
The key to a rental business like this is to have a really tight handle on operations. It can quickly become a time-sucking monster instead of the glorious passive income you envisioned. Review these previous posts for tips on automations with rental businesses.
Blast from the past:
My experience with car sharing.
The evolution of Car Sharing platforms has been fascinating to watch over the last few years. I remember seeing an ad on Instagram for Turo. A college kid was posing in front of his corvette so obviously I clicked on the article. He had 5 rentals and the article went through all the questions I had. I didn’t have any money to buy a car and rent it out, b…
The Reverse Rental Strategy
This weekend I will be hitting the slopes and skiing my heart out in Idaho. I’ve been needing new ski boots for a long time, so I started browsing around on good old Facebook Marketplace. There were tons of used boots listings that I had to filter through, but I found this guy who had a solid listing.
